Strawberries
2008 Spring Berry Update:
We will be closed for strawberries!!!!
We regret to inform everyone that we will not have any berries this year! We have been blessed over the past 6 years with wonderful strawberries each and every season, so we are thanking God for our good years while we sit this one out! Our plants were hit with a rare disease called leaf blotch, and despite our efforts to save them, we were unable to keep them alive. We will defiantly have berries next year, since we replant every year! If you would like to read more about this fungal disease you can check out this link:

We are, however, going to have some vegetables this summer- sweet corn, tomatoes, and several others, so be sure to come out and get some fresh veggies! We plan on having our blackberries as well, which will be available in June and July!

Welcome to Connell Farms Strawberry Information Page!
Our Strawberries are the sweetest, juiciest and biggest you will find in the area. We plant a wonderful variety of strawberry called "Camerosa". We have been in the berry business for 5 years now. We replant fresh strawberry plants every year to ensure the very best quality of strawberries. We plant using the plasticulture technique, in which we raise our beds and plant our strawberries on black plastic. Our strawberries tend to be ready around tax time- which is mid April and they usually last about six weeks. We charge by the pound for our berries. We have 2 gallon buckets available for you to use to pick your berries in, or you may bring your own. We offer berries already picked for the elderly or those not able to pick their own. We also have box top flats to put your berries in to take home, or you my bring your own container. Below you will find our schedule and prices as well as some recipes and berry preserving tips!

Preserving your berries:
The best way to preserve your whole berry is to cap them, do NOT wash them and place them in a single layer with no sides touching on a cookie sheet and freeze overnight. When the berries are frozen you can put them into freezer bags or containers in the freezer until ready to use! You may also want to freeze your berries so that they will be ready to cook with. To do this you wash them, cap them and slice them into thin layers. Put them into two quart containers and cover with sugar. They are now ready to freeze!

Our Favorite Recipes:
Some of our favorite ways to use our strawberries are listed below:
Freezer Jam- We simply follow the easy directions listed on the sure-jell box!
Strawberry Cobbler- Use a roll out pie crust, fresh berries and lots of sugar! Bake according to pie crust box and serve warm with ice cream!
